The American River Basin (ARB) Integrated Regional Water Management Plan (IRWMP) describes regional and statewide challenges and statewide priorities and identifies objectives to meet the needs of the ARB region.
Identified regional planning objectives for the American River Basin include reliable drinking water supplies, stormwater and flood management, groundwater management, consideration of environmental water supplies and ecosystem restoration, recycled water development and implementation, and improvement and protection of water quality in both surface water and groundwater.
The IRWMP also provides a listing of projects and programs which could address identified regional needs, and that are ready for implementation.
The intended purpose of this IRWMP is to provide and encourage regional opportunities for water resources planning and project development. With the diversity in urban, agricultural, and environmental interests in the region, coordinating the multiple agencies and stakeholder groups has been challenging yet successful in addressing issues confronting the region.
